Illinois State launches new home page

ISU Homepage

by Artemis Steakley-Freeman

On August 21, 2011, Illinois State University officially launched an all new, user-friendly home page. The project had been in development since February 2011 and has seen major growth since then.

In March of 2011, a committee of Student Affairs, IT, Enrollment Management, and Finance staff was formed to serve as a focus group to determine what the ultimate goal of the site redesign would be. It became evident that the purpose of the new site would be to act as a front door to Illinois State and to be the first thing that prospective students, their parents, and other external audiences would see. Web Developer Binoy Edathiparambil said, “We want the website to help show the identity that is ISU.”

Those who religiously check the Illinois State home page know that on August 8th, a beta version of the home page was launched. According to Institutional Web Support Director Julie Prianos, the beta page was launched to get as much feedback as possible. When the last homepage was launched six years ago, there was no beta site or transition period, resulting in negative feedback. The development team is trying to reach out to other departments on campus to get their feedback. “We don’t know what everyone on campus needs from the website,” Prianos added, “and those are the people we’re trying to target.”

Apart from the new appearance of the University home page, there are a number of improved features of the website, of which the most evident is the redesigned search engine.
